Funny how obvious it is there’s “no glass”.
It was a different time.

I have no idea what it’s from actually. It always bugs me when they remove the headrests.

Before the cameras got so small they used to remove the glass for the “driving and talking” scene... then would mount the camera and sound gear on the hood. A lot of TV episodes you also noticed that the Rear View Mirror was pulled, too, since it was “in the frame” too much.
That Caddy power slide looks so familiar but I can’t place it. Mad, Mad World maybe? That’s a wild guess though. I have no idea.

I have worked on some TV and m ovies , I’m a rigger. We still had dedicated filming cars with the whole front removed and a truss platform for all the equipment over the hood, someone drove it from there too.

I can’t figure out what this is from, but the background screams “Los Angeles Drainage Wash”. They’ve looked like this for decades, with large high-walled concrete rivers with channels in the bottom for normal low levels of water flow.

Oh yeah the number of shoots in an LA drain is staggering I’m sure.

Same here. For whatever reason, I always immediately notice when a TV/film car has the headrests removed.

I think the drivers in Ronin (except for Larry— who had serious talent) all sat on the roof, didn’t they?
And, of course, the street level film was shot from...
I still love this film because it’s like the last of the “No CGI” car stunt movies. That tunnel chase scene is just breath-taking.

Pretty sure it’s the rivulet merge point near Sepulveda Dam in the Valley.

A lot of chase vehicles are Panameras, I worked on Matrix 4 one night and they had a Panamera. I haven’t seen how they shot Ronin.

Most cars that old didn’t even have headrests. You were expected to take your whiplash like a man.

For classic cars, I don’t mind ‘cause most didn’t have headrests to begin with. Mine sure doesn’t.

They shot in the same car. Actors were on one side in a mocked up driving position and choreographed. Stunt driver was beside them doing the work. This exercise was intended to make sure the actors were able to express the appropriate levels of stress and concern during these scenes...

TV-series called Adam-12 apparently. IMCDB is pretty good source for this sort of stuff.

It’s a Buick - 59. Don't see those very often.

Oh I know that show, yeah I like that data base but I didn’t think a gif would work.

Well yeah but by the 80' s you could always see the seat had them missing.

I’m sure. They’re just an integral part of the landscape of the region. Without them, everything would flood periodically. I don’t know of anywhere outside
the southwestern US that has them like this.
We all called them “washes”.
After looking around, it appears to be where the Tujunga Wash meets up with the Los Angeles River in Studio City right next to the CBS studios.

I just went through it manually. There can’t be that many ‘59 Buick sedans in that colo r used in movies.

We have some big drainage systems in Hawaii but not like that. I’ve been tubing in the agricultural ditches.
